HOMESPUN
COMMUNITY DANCING

ACTIVITIES FOR SUMMER CAMPS

Hoedown - Barn Dance - Western Night
Old-Time Square Dance - International Folk
New England Contra Dance

Live fiddle music!

Homespun Community Dancing creates fun, wholesome participatory dance and music events.

Kick up your heels for . . .

  • Staff orientation
  • Camper "get to know you" night
  • Theme night
  • Family weekend
  • Farewell night

We tailor our dances and workshops to fit your camp’s schedule, programming, and special events.

Dances are fit to the age and ability of the campers, and are led by a caller with live fiddle music. Dances run from one to three hours and can be priced to fit any budget.

Homespun performs the delightful and distinctive music of many cultures including Celtic, English, Balkan, French Canadian, Israeli, Russian, African-American, and Appalachian traditions.

We lead participants in square, folk, contra, and circle dance steps of the more than 300 different dances in our repertoire.

“Homespun knows how to make a special event special!  Paul Rosenberg has a phenomenal ability to structure the dance time both for learning and participating.  Everyone leaves happy and exhausted!”

Sherie Alden, Director, Point O’ Pines Camp
(residential, ages 7-15), Brant Lake, NY

Homespun’s workshops and dances are just the sort of community-building activity that gets everyone up and moving.  The dances are so easy that everyone can feel successful doing them in just one session.   In addition to being a lot of fun, they’re a great way of teaching mutual respect and group cooperation.

In addition, traditional community dancing:

  • Teaches history.  Campers learn firsthand how folks have socialized for many generations, plus hear anecdotes from American (and global) history that lie behind the dance titles or the music.
  • Develops campers’ communication and listening skills.
  • Helps to improve physical coordination. Dancing is great exercise.

For a great homespun occasion, keep us in mind for your summer camp program, or any year-round camp or family event. We’d be delighted to talk with you about becoming a part of your camp experience.
