What is a Homespun Community Dance?
  • An exciting, interactive workshop or family dance that gets dancers of all ages up and moving as they learn about the history and musical traditions of different cultures

  • A foot-stomping, hand-clapping atmosphere with live music played on traditional instruments like banjo, fiddle and pennywhistle

  • Most of all, a festive learning experience! Homespun's experienced dance caller lets everyone know what to do and when to do it. Steps are taught so quickly that participants won't realize they're learning something new

  What Homespun Community Dance teaches:
  • The history of music, song and dance and the important roles these art forms play in society

  • Respect for other cultures and musical traditions, from Africa to Appalachia, the Middle East to Europe, Asia to Latin America

  • Coordination, rhythm and movement

  • Listening skills, cooperation and community
